RISING DARKNESS has unforgettable characters and a storyline as enchanting as the forest surrounding the mystical Cadre Castle.

With her love of unnerving surroundings and chilling characters evident throughout the book, Cynthia Cooke crafts a tale where the impossible occurs with convincing realism. The plot is packed with countless mysteries, and the disclosure of each of them only adds more fuel to the escalating suspense. With the surprising revelations of this series making it innovative in many ways, readers will be captivated with every page turned. There are some engaging characters introduced during the story, and each one is mesmerizing in their own right. Damien and Emma are two dynamically spirited characters, and Ms. Cooke certainly portrays them in a realistic fashion. Watching this couple come to terms with their true inner feelings is so touchingly depicted in each scene, as their genuine emotions cannot always be controlled during every situation. When faced with life-altering decisions, their distress or elation is made apparent by their sincere reactions. Seemingly fated to be together, Damien and Emma express some of the most heartfelt and often sensual thoughts I have read lately. They also have some delightful snappy responses to give when replying to questions. With unexpected twists and riveting moments, RISING DARKNESS is an exceedingly compelling story from start to finish.

Detective Riley MacIntyre seeks justice when his sister-in-law becomes the latest victim of a serial killer. He has little evidence to go on, except a locket found around her slashed throat. Riley traces the necklace to Devra Morgan, a young woman with an uncanny resemblance to his sister-in-law. When he delves into her past, Riley realizes Devra has a secret to hide—a secret that may spell death for her unless she shares it with him. Be prepared to Shiver (4.5) when you come face to face with Cynthia Cooke's maniacal killer. This absorbing tale is impossible to put down!

When Dr. Emily Armstrong arrives in Venezuela the last person she expects to encounter is her ex-husband, Peter Vance. The two divorced when Peter apparently chose his CIA job over Emily. Now a drug lord has kidnapped Emily, and Peter must decide if he'll compromise three years of deep cover to rescue her. Cynthia Cooke writes exciting, fast-paced suspense in Peter's Return (4). The plot is occasionally rushed, but realistic characters discover God's hand in their lives while exploring their feelings for each other. —Melissa Parcel

Steeple Hill Love Inspired reviewed by Beth Goddard:

TOP PICK!  Willa Barrett is an undercover detective obsessed with nailing her father’s killer.  Disguised as a prostitute, she gets the goods on her man, quickly hiding the evidence in youth pastor Jeff MacPhearson’s back pocket.  Jeff is searching for a runaway youth when he’s run over by Willa.  He finds it strange when he and his youth group are hiking in the mountains, and Willa—minus the blond wig—shows up.  She hates the outdoors, and it’s evident she’s never been hiking in her life.  Cynthia Cooke’s Luck and a Prayer (4 1/2) immediately caught my attention with the unusual subject matter.  Some readers may find it more intense than is customary for Love Inspired books, but I was quickly drawn into the story and the suspense.
